When Elena has a difficult decision at work, her first reaction is usually to stay at her desk. She opens another document, reads the same notes again, and hopes that the answer will appear. After a while, however, the notes begin to look less clear rather than clearer.

One afternoon, a colleague suggests a short walk around the block. Elena does not expect the walk to solve her problem. She simply wants a break from the screen. Outside, she notices delivery bikes, a dog waiting near a shop, and people choosing where to cross the street. Her attention moves away from the report for a few minutes.

By the time she returns, the decision is still difficult, but she can describe it more simply. She writes two questions: What information is missing? What would happen if the team waited one week? The walk has not given her an answer. It has helped her see which question to ask next.

This does not mean that walking is a solution for every kind of problem. Some difficult decisions still require advice or research, and others need more time. A person may also be unable to leave work when they need a pause. Yet a brief change of place can sometimes interrupt the habit of looking at the same problem in the same way.

Elena now uses walks carefully. She does not walk to avoid a decision or pretend that movement makes every idea better. She walks when she feels stuck, then returns to her desk to check her ideas against the facts. For her, the value of walking is not speed. It is the small space it creates between confusion and the next useful step.
