Every Saturday morning, Mr. Chen put a small table outside his building. On the table, he had tools, a pump, and a sign: “Bicycle help, 10 to 12.” He did not ask for money. He only asked people to wait their turn.
At first, two children came with a flat tire. Mr. Chen showed them how to take the wheel off and find the small hole. Their father watched carefully. Then a woman brought an old bicycle that made a strange sound when she rode it.
Mr. Chen found a loose chain and fixed it. While he worked, the children cleaned their bicycles with a cloth. The woman offered everyone some water. Soon, people who did not know each other were talking about routes, parks, and safe streets.
Before noon, Mr. Chen packed his tools. The children could ride again, and the woman could use her bicycle for work. The father asked if he could help next Saturday. Mr. Chen said yes. “Bring your own tools if you have them,” he said.
